Activision has revealed the next entry in the popular Skylanders
franchise. Skylanders BattleCast is a free-to-play mobile collectible
card game, similar to the huge WOW Gold
and successful World of Warcraft spinoff Hearthstone which is also from
Activision Blizzard. There are currently no details on whether or not
NFC-enabled toys will be used for Battlecast, but it has been confirmed
that Activision will be selling decks of physical Skylanders cards
exclusively for the title.
So, what is Skylanders BattleCast?
Imagine Pokémon meets Hearthstone. Players will be able to scan
character cards such as Spyro the Dragon into BattleCast for duels
between the characters presented in augmented reality. Attack and effect
cards can also be scanned into the game through the mobile device to
further bring the characters to life. Not much is known about the exact
battle formula at the moment, but Activision has promised more details
regarding gameplay in the coming months.
Seeing another online CCG
from Activision Blizzard really is not surprising considering
Hearthstone's financial success. Skylanders is a similarly proven
property for Activision, so essentially bringing the two series together
to create Skylanders BattleCast sounds like a wise move on the
company's part. Only time will tell for sure.
Skylanders
BattleCast is set to launch on the iOS App Store, Google Play, and
Amazon's Appstore sometime next year, but Activision is promising a
sneak peek of the game through a preview app due this September 20th.
Meanwhile anyone looking to try out the NFC toy series can get their
hands on Skylanders Superchargers also set to Buy WOW Gold launch on September 20th across most major gaming platforms.
